If nominated for best actor, Steven Yeun would be the first Asian American to ever be recognized in an acting category of the Academy Awards.
According to a media report, Yeun will campaign as a lead actor for his performance in 'Minari' along with his co-star Yeri Han will do the same for the best actress award at Oscars 2021.
Asian representation in the acting categories has been the worst in the Academy’s long history. Yul Brynner, of Mongol descent, won the best actor for 1956’s 'The King and I' while Ben Kingsley, who is half Indian, won the best actor for the 1982 feature 'Gandhi'.
if any of the 'Minari' actors are nominated, this marks the first time the Academy has nominated any Korean performers in an acting category.
'Minari' is a 2020 American drama film, written and directed by Lee Isaac Chung. The flick follows a Korean-American family that moves to a tiny Arkansas farm in search of their own American Dream. The family home changes completely with the arrival of their sly, foul-mouthed, but incredibly loving grandmother.
